It may be that any chiropractic doctor would have been able to treat Rachel's back pain successfully. The difference with Dr. Polsemen is that she took the time to talk to us, and to thoroughly investigate Rachel's overall health, not just her obvious complaint. By doing so, she discovered something more than what we came to her for, and then set about repairing Rachel's total health.

What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is the largest natural health care system in the world. Although many people think of chiropractors when experiencing "neck" or "low back" pain chiropractic care offers far reaching benefits. Chiropractors are concerned with the functioning of the nervous system and focus on relieving spinal stress caused by misaligned vertebrae.

Adjusting the spine improves nerve function and nerves, of course, control every organ, tissue and cell in the body. The body has the innate ability to heal itself given the right internal environment.

A nervous system that is working at its optimal level supports a healthier body and a sense of well-being. That's something that everyone wants.

What's that cracking noise?

This is a common question and one that most patients ask. Every joint contains "synovial" fluid that keeps it lubricated & healthy. When a joint is adjusted, the noise is simply the release of gas - just as in the case of opening a carbonated beverage.

Should children be seen by a Chiropractor?

As every parent knows, active children experience bumps and bruises on a regular basis. Although children are highly resilient, they can still suffer hidden spinal problems.

Pediatric adjustments are very gentle. Children respond very quickly to chiropractic care. Children should ideally be checked shortly after birth because the trauma of delivery can cause misaligned vertebrae (subluxations) which in turn causes nerve stress. Regular checkups help maintain a healthy, functioning spine so that a child will not develop many of the chronic problems that plague adults.

How long will it take?

There are 3 types of chiropractic care: relief, corrective & wellness. Relief care is the minimal number of visits necessary to relieve your pain or discomfort. The length of time depends on a number of factors such as how long you've had the problem, how healthy you are and your age. Restoring the body to its maximum health function is the goal of corrective care.

Adjusting the spine (relief and corrective care) is really like rehab in that it takes time for the joints and ligaments to stabilize and maintain the alignment. In wellness care, the idea is to maintain optimal health and to prevent relapses of previous symptoms and conditions.

When maximum improvement has been attained, regular checkups/adjustments help maintain the work that's been done in the first 2 phases.

What is NET (Neuroemotional Technique)?

NET is a technique that uses muscle testing, meridians, and homeopathic remedies to aid in releasing stuck emotional patterns from the body. Emotions are healthy and normal but sometimes emotions do not resolve in their normal way due to stress, physical trauma, or poor nutrition. When our bodies do not "release" these emotions we often experience self-sabotaging behaviors, destructive beliefs and chronic physical complaints.
